It’s been a pretty damn good year.

Back in February, a (one word) quote from my review of Fear of Clowns made the DVD box cover.

A couple weeks ago I was lucky enough to be on the set for its sequel, Fear of Clowns 2 (report coming soon).

Last weekend I caught the premier of the movie I worked on/invested in, Dead Hunt, and it was better than I expected it to be for various reasons.  The editing was tight and it moved quickly.  Pretty damn solid movie.  And, yes, of course I’m biased.

Then I got yesterday’s mail.

Wow.

In 2004, I read “The Rising” by Brian Keene.  I dug the book a lot, and the ending was somewhat of a mindfuck.  So I sent him an email about the ending.  I got no reply.

A couple weeks after the email, I went to a signing he was having (along with some other great authors) and asked him if he had, by chance, read it.  I wasn’t asking to be “that guy,” I had some questions that were in the email that I was curious about, and I didn’t feel it was necessary to repeat the whole thing.

His response?  “Oh!  You’re that guy!  Yeah I read it.”

Silence from my part.  I didn’t quite know how he would react.

“I loved that email!” He finished, and he explained he didn’t have time to respond to it, although he wanted to.  Busy schedule.  I can dig that.  I was cool with the fact that he didn’t take offense to it.

Well, since then, we’ve had some back and forth emails on occasion because I’m a stalker and he humors me.  Kudos for him.  He even was cool enough to do an interview for HorrorTalk.  Good times.

Now, here’s the jist:  A while back, Keene said he was going to name a character after me in an upcoming book.  Fucking sweet.  If you ask me, you shouldn’t feed the stalkers, but I know Keene is a well armed man, so I doubt he has any worries.  I told a few friends about it, but, for the most part, I was too damn paranoid that it would never come through.  Not that I didn’t trust Keene’s word.  Oh no.  It was the fact that it could be cut in editing, or any number of things that my overactive imagination was thinking of.  So I didn’t want to jinx it by telling a lot of people.

Well, “The Rutting Season” arrived in my mailbox yesterday.  So it’s official.  There is, indeed, a character with my name in the book.  And it’s not just “Stewie.”  It’s the name I use on my emails, so there’s no confusion.

Those who have received an email from me know.

And, not only that, he did something completely unexpected and, for me, mindblowing and to some degree flattering.  Because I don’t know why, and I don’t know if it’s deserved.  Oh hell, dare I say it, I’m a little loss for words.  And it’s not that it’s unappreciated.  Laws no.  M-O-O-N.  That spells “holy fuck thanks!”  Laws yes.  Everyone knows that.
Those who know me will notice it.

Those who want to know, buy “The Rutting Season” and tell me what you think it is.

This is turning out to be a damn good year indeed.

  • Congrats, man. All this shit couldn’t bappen to a cooler and more appreciative person.

  • Wow, your fanboi life is paying off bigtime! Congrats!

  • And they say stalking is wrong. Good on you!

  • Ace

Good on’ya! Now I’ll have to read the book, which I bought (at twice the cover price on eBay, freakin’ LEs) more because of you than because of Keene, even though i like him and his books.

I figured I owed YOU the support! Hah!

Remind me to get you to sign my FOC DVD, Mr. Famous.

  • Hmmm…seems like stalking really pays off!! 😉

    Well done Stewie 🙂

  • aricblue

So tell the truth…how many copies of the book are you gonna buy? 🙂

  • Allright Stewie…. SIT! Good Boy!!!!

    LOL!!!

    norm

  • Would it be ok if I waited for the movie? I’m not much into reading. (Blogging doesn’t count, or cybering with bots)

  • Much, much thanks, ya’ll for the comments.

Eric, lol, bro you don’t owe me jack. And you’ll be signing my DH DVD!

Greg, at the rate Keene is going, I’m betting a movie isn’t out of the realm.

  • I guess I should read your blog more often. Congrats. 🙂

I understand why you didn’t tell me over IM. I would have just mocked you more about your stalking. Now I will have to pick this book up as well, not that that is a horrible thing. I too actually enjoyed the books of his that I have read. He is far better than King.

  • That was a great post UNTIL YOU KNOCKED KING!

I think you are mad that Maximum Overdrive smoked any Argento movie. It’s okay, I understand.

    Thanks! 😀
